Inverter Selection Checklist
Inverter selection is a matching exercise: the unit must match the array, the grid connection, the building and the project's storage plans. Work through the list before comparing models, so the comparison happens between units that actually fit.
The checklist
- Array fit: the array's size and string arrangement against the inverter's rated power and voltage ranges, read from the model's own specification
- Phase and grid: single-phase or three-phase supply, local grid conditions and any export rules that apply
- Mounting: indoor or outdoor position, the protection rating the position demands, ventilation and access
- Storage plans: whether a battery is part of the project now, planned later, or not planned
- Outage expectations: whether the system must supply loads during grid outages, and what arrangement that requires
- Documentation: efficiency figures and standards as listed for the exact model, plus its warranty term
The documented on-grid model in this catalogue shows the completeness to aim for: rated and maximum power, voltage ranges, three efficiency figures, protection rating, dimensions and weight, each stated for that model. An offer that answers only the headline power question has not yet answered the selection questions.
Where a project mixes a new inverter with an existing array or an existing battery, bring the documentation of what is already installed to the enquiry. Compatibility is decided by documents, not by connector shapes.
